Behind the Music of Lucy James

Lucy James is a 24 year old composer, sound designer, producer, musical director and facilitator based in Greater London. Since graduating from The Academy of Contemporary Music in 2019, she has predominantly established herself in scoring theatre productions, whilst independently composing & producing music as a solo artist. Lucy takes pride in voicing underrepresented communities and experiences through her work, most recently including

Sheffield Theatre's 'The Fossil Kids', Derby Theatre's 'Home Girl', 'A Beginner's Guide To Widowhood', 'Odyssey', Derby Youth Theatre, and many other exciting co-creation projects by artists across the country. As a queer, care experienced and working-class artist and creative practitioner from the Midlands, Lucy aims to champion narratives that reframe perceptions of home and belongingness. In August 2023, Lucy completed her Songwriting MA at ICMP London where she produced a groundbreaking thesis project,'When One Door Closes', exploring the capacity for self-transformation in musical theatre songwriting. Lucy now lectures at ICMP whilst undertaking many research and creative projects across the country.
